Unction - Anointing the Sick

Anointing the Sick is also called Ministration to the Sick, or Unction. This sacrament calls for the anointing of the sick with oil or the laying on of hands, and is the means by which God’s grace is given for the healing of spirit, mind, and body. In this sacrament, we pray for healing and wholeness. Christians recognize that there is a difference between being healed and being cured. Anointing for healing can be administered at any time and is not reserved solely for those who are gravely ill.

Clergy may be asked to administer this sacrament at home, or in hospitals and nursing homes. Please note that hospitals and nursing homes no longer inform clergy if a church member has been admitted.  If you or a loved one are hospitalized, we encourage you to let us know by calling the office at 717-766-5182.

Every Wednesday at 9:30 AM, St. Luke's holds a Healing Service, with the laying on of hands and communion. This service is open to everyone, especially people searching for healing of body, mind, or spirit, their caretakers, and loved ones.
